How much a periodic test & inspection will cost

An electrical periodic test & inspection is nothing like a gas inspection, electricans have to do more testing than a gas inspector. A gas inspector only checks all the gas appliances and gas meter within a property, and takes about an hour depending on how many gas appliances there are.

An electrical periodic test & inspection of a property, takes anything from 2 hours to a full day to complete or more, depending on the size & type of the property. We do not have to lift floor boards, but we must check a minimum of 10% of each type of outlets and points serving an installation.

We complete a visual inspection of the installation and test all circuits, while the installation is working and  also turned off. The results of the inspection and test results, are checked against technical data and regulations, to determine a pass or failure condition of the installation. Electricians spend more time on a periodic test & inspection than a gas inspector on gas inspection, so an electrical PIR will obviously cost more than a gas inspection.

The price of a PIR depends on how long it will take, this could be in hours, days or weeks, depending on the type and size of the property. A small flat will take approximately 2 hours, a three bedroom house approximately four to eight hours, and a large mansion alot longer. These are just a few types and sizes of property, there are many more but the main factor which determines the price is, how long it will take.

All prices below are approximate prices, as each property could have a different set of circumstances. The price includes the testing & inspection of one consumer unit, and all circuits and equipment supplied from it. Each additional consumer unit to be certificated, will be certificated at an extra cost of £20 per circuit. If a property has an off peak supply for storage heaters or water heating, the circuits supplied from it will be certificated but will be completed at an extra cost of £20 per circuit.
