Electrical Certificates

There are 3 main types of electrical certificate

1. Minor works certificate which is for work that does not involve installing a new circuit, such as an extra
point, exchange of a point or repair.

2. Installation certificate which is issued for most types of electrical work, such as upgrading a consumer
unit, adding a new circuit and a full or part rewire.

3. Periodic inspection report which is for reporting on the condition of an existing electrical installation.

All electricians must supply electrical certificates for all electrical work they complete. It is a legal requirement of the electrical regulations BS.7671 and part P of the building regulations, to always supply certificates on completion.

If you do not receive a certificate for electrical work completed by an electrician, contact a part P approved scheme provider such as NAPIT or Trading Standards. You could be fined upto £5000, not be able to sell your property, and your insurance could be made invalid if you dont.
