What happens if faults are found
If faults are found you will receive written details on them within the periodic electrical report, a company will also give you a written estimate or quote for rectifying these faults.
Code 1 faults should be rectified as soon as possible, as there are dangerous faults requiring urgent
attention.
Code 2 faults are potentially dangerous faults and need rectifying as soon as possible, as there is a
potential danger.
Code 3 fault means that there is something that could not be found during the test or visual, but needs further
investigation to find out information that could be important.
Code 4 fault means that part of the installation is not upto current regulations, might not present a danger but
needs upgrading to current regulations.
You should always have all faults rectified as soon as possible, otherwise you and others could be in danger, and your insurance could be invalid. After all faults have been rectified, the installation should be retested and you will receive a new periodic inspection certificate. This will state there are no faults, and when the installation should be retested, this date is shown on the certificate and on a label on the consumer unit.
